Wait until your garage door is fully opened before attempting to walk underneath it. A simple miscalculation can lead to injury or even death.
Learn how to use the emergency release. If someone is pinned under the door, activating the emergency release could save his or her life.
Do not let children play with or use garage door transmitters. Make sure to keep your garage door remote control or push button wall control out of their reach, at least five feet from the floor.
Remember to keep the garage door in sight when you’re using it. Make sure your push-button wall control is mounted where you can see the garage door clearly.
Garage Door Maintenance
If your garage door needs major repairs, we recommend you contact a certified professional. However, there are some things you can do to maintain your own garage door.
- The garage or overhead door track should be lubricated once a year. Contact us if you need lubrication advice for your specific door.
- Clean the weather stripping around the frame with vinyl cleaner every other month. Then, lubricate it with an appropriate product.
- Inspect the rollers every six months. If they’re worn out or broken, call us to replace them.
- If your garage door is painted, make sure you repaint it from time to time to protect it
Garage Door Springs
Generally, these springs should last a limited number of cycles, usually around 10,000. One opening and one closing of the garage door constitutes a cycle.
Upgrades of up to 100,000 cycles are available. Most springs will break after 7 to 12 years. If one spring breaks, all springs must be replaced by a trained professional for proper balance.
Garage Door
Failure
Improper maintenance and being hit by a vehicle are the main leading causes of garage door failure. A regular maintenance schedule will keep your garage door in top shape. Contact us to learn more.
